about me.
Marcelle Moreira dos Santos, also known as Mars, is an emerging actress and climate action advocate currently living, working, and playing in the unsurrendered lands of the Musqueam, Tsleil Waututh, and Squamish peoples.
Mars grew up in Brazil as a member of a racialized community, which helped her understand the negative impacts of lack of representation (in media and in government) of women of color at a very young age. She obtained her post-secondary education in Ecology and Economics at UBC, where she further deepened this understanding.
This is what motivates her to:
1. Contribute to environmental and social justice at Dreamstill, and previously as Project Coordinator at the Share Reuse Repair Initiative, Research Intern at Regenerative Waste Labs, and Environmental Modeler at Agriculture and Agri Food Canada, so that not a single person feels the disproportionate impacts of climate disasters like she did, having to flee her own home at 8 years old due to flooding.
2. Create and bring visibility to media work curated for and by women of color, so that not a single girl has to struggle like she did, to feel like the main character in their own lives.
